English Language Development

EPIC students receive English Language Development (ELD) support through both designated and integrated models throughout the school day. Teachers provide ELD based on current student data pulled from the ELPAC assessment as well as on-going classroom based assessments. Students receive designated ELD support in a small group setting with their classroom teacher. Additionally, students who need further support participate in a newcomer pullout group where lessons are tailored to meet their specific developmental needs.

Another way in which EPIC students receive ELD is through integrated ELD. At EPIC integrated ELD is delivered using the strategies of Guided Language Acquisition Design (Project GLAD). All EPIC teachers are trained and implement Project GLAD teaching strategies. This program has proven to be very beneficial for ELLs and all students.
