Principal's Message

Dr. Jerry KoschDear Empowering Possibilities International Charter Community (EPIC school),

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year!  I have over 25 years of experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in the Los Angeles and Sacramento areas. Most recently, I have served Gateway Community Charters (GCC) in the central office as a coordinator and director of academics and human resources. In addition to my practical school site and central office leadership experience, I received my doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2007. Some of my hobbies outside of education include working out at the gym, playing golf, and spending time with my daughter Carole. I am also a sports fan and support USC athletic programs, Sacramento Kings, and Oakland Athletics.

The EPIC team and I are committed to providing a high quality education for every EPIC student. Your child will receive an academically rigorous curriculum in all core areas along with an emphasis on technology and 21st century skills. We also believe in developing the whole child to be productive citizens and we strive to model and uphold the EPIC Vision and Mission. EPIC is a Flippen Group Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH) National Showcase school, which contributes to our outstanding school culture.

Our teachers and staff are dedicated to creating partnerships with our school families. Parents are encouraged to get involved in our school activities, such as: School Site Council (SSC), English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) and our wonderful Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). EPIC also prides itself on its vast Parent University program, where topics range from how to help your child’s academics at home, to information sessions about International Baccalaureate.

Our teaching staff holds high expectations for the academic success of each child. Our curriculum is aligned to the California Standards and organized through the lens of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) and Middle Years Program (MYP). The EPIC instructional team prides itself on its use of research-based instructional practices such as Project GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) to create a connective and innovative learning experience for students. In addition to high-quality academics, you will find exemplary programs in the areas of art, music, and physical education at EPIC. I invite you to explore our website to learn more about the vast academic and extra-curricular opportunities that exist at EPIC school.

The faculty and staff at EPIC are proud of our school and accomplishments. We are committed to creating an environment where students feel welcome, appreciated and challenged to do their best each day. I look forward to working with you and my door is always open. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about EPIC school.
